Book Review 1: “The Complete Software Developers Career Guide” by John Sonmez
Overall, this book earns a 9.5 out of 10, and it’s the main reason I decided to start this website in the first place. It doesn’t just cover how to get started in the field from an education or technical standpoint—it also dives deep into the soft skills and mindset that actually help you stand out in a crowded industry.
What really sets this book apart is how practical it is. The author goes beyond theory and offers clear, actionable advice on building a career intentionally, rather than just hoping things work out. The book also includes links to some of his other resources and books, which makes it easy to continue learning if his approach resonates with you.
If you choose the audiobook version, it’s narrated by John Sonmez himself, which adds a lot of value. He includes extra insights and small “bonus” moments that don’t feel scripted, but instead feel like genuine advice from someone who’s already walked the path. That personal touch makes the experience even better.
What I appreciate most is that the book feels like a conversation—almost like someone sitting across from you, explaining what they wish they had known when they were starting out. Because of that, I’d recommend this book even if you’re not a beginner. It offers excellent perspectives on handling opportunities, making better decisions, and improving how you approach both your career and personal growth.
If you’re on the fence, my advice is simple: read it or listen to it. It’s absolutely worth your time.
